This depends mostly on your hair type and length. If you have fine, naturally straight hair, or your hair tends to lean more towards the oily side, clip-in extensions are probably the way to go. Most importantly, they are simple to take in and out. We recommend your hair is at least 6-7 inches long for the best blending ability. If your hair is naturally kinky, coarse, or thick, both clip-ins and wefts will work for you, depending on what kind of hairstyle you’re interested in. Wefts are typically used for sew-ins, so if you plan to keep your hairstyle long term (think weeks to months), wefts are for you. Wefts require your hair to be at least 2 inches long or long enough to french braid. Please refer to our hair type chart for more help.

Clips-ins are a type of hair extension that are used to add volume and/or length. Woven clip-in extensions come in sets of 10 pieces of differing sizes. Clip-ins are very DIY friendly, where self-installation can take only minutes. Women choose this type of extension for many reasons including everyday use, ease in installation, special events, etc. Clip-ins should be removed every night and installed into clean dry hair.

We currently offer three options: 16, 18 and 22 inches.

Each set comes with 10 wefts and 26 clips: Two 4 clip wefts, two 3 clip wefts, four 2 clip wefts, and two 2 clip wefts.

Yes. The clips we use are lined with silicone in the opening to avoid slipping, to increase security and comfort, and to maintain the health of your hair. They’re sitting pretty.

A: Sew-ins are a type of hair extension application, typically done in hair salons, in which a person’s natural hair is braided to the scalp and hair extension wefts are then sewn onto the braid to create a natural look. Women choose this hairstyle for a variety of reasons with the most common being versatility and protection of their natural hair from the elements and from potential damage due to heat tools.

The number of sets you need will depend on the look you’re going for. If you’re keeping a good portion of your hair out, one to two sets will be great. If you’re planning a full head hair style, two sets will typically be perfect; three sets if you like some extra fullness.

A: Just like your own hair, Woven hair extensions can be straightened, blow-dried, styled and curled. In order to preserve and extend the lifespan of your Woven hair extensions, we suggest always using a heat protectant spray prior to styling your set. Additionally, we recommend only using a low heat setting of 120C/250F, as anything hotter runs the risk of damaging the hair.

The reason why we recommend opting for a lower heat setting is because it will extend the lifespan of your hair extensions. This is because our own hair is constantly being revitalized from the scalp, whereas hair extensions are not receiving that kind of nutrition.

Yes. For the most natural look, we recommend that you have your Woven hair extensions cut by a professional who is specifically experienced in cutting hair extensions. Since cutting hair extensions requires a different technique than cutting one’s own hair, it needs to be done right to avoid a choppy look.

The extension life expectancy depends on the care and how often they are worn. If taken care of properly, they will last anywhere between 4 and 12 months (though they often last much longer than that).

Girl no! One of the reasons that Woven hair extensions exist is to avoid that problem entirely. In fact, our mission is to protect your hair so it can continue to grow and stay as healthy as possible. Our clip-in extensions are made with the utmost care to make them super easy to use. Each clip is lined with silicone at the point where your hair clips in to prevent any slipping or rubbing.

It’s important to choose the right set for your particular hair texture to ensure your comfort. If you have chosen wefts, it’s imperative that your stylist has experience working with hair extensions and is trained in their installation methods. If proper care is taken when installing Woven extensions, you’ll be in tip top shape!

For most people, is not necessary to wash your extensions after every use. If you find that your extensions are tangling or frizzing up, please consider washing them and using a moderate amount of conditioner to detangle.

Wash Schedule:

  • If you have oily hair/scalp: Wash & condition every 3-5 wears.
  • After using hairspray or styling products: Wash & condition every 1-2 wears.
  • Dry hair/scalp: Wash & condition every 10-15 wears
  • Normal Hair/scalp: Wash & condition every 5-10 wears If you swim with them (not recommended): Wash and condition immediately.

Since Woven hair is 100% human hair, you can use whichever shampoo you wash your own hair with. We recommend a shampoo that is sulfate free. It’s better for your hair and the earth!

We don’t recommend swimming in clip-in extensions, especially in chlorinated water. But if you just can’t resist, we suggest braiding your hair before submerging your head into water as it will help to keep your hair untangled. We suggest the same braiding technique for sewn-in hair.

Clip-in’s are an incredibly convenient hair style and proper care will significantly prolong their lifespan. We recommend removing the extensions before going to sleep in order to avoid potential discomfort or damage to the extensions (think of it like going to sleep with your bra on).

Yes, our 100% human hair extensions can be dyed a darker color or toned. We highly recommend having this done by a professional hair colorist who is experienced in working with hair extensions. If you do decide to have them dyed, we recommend using either a one clip weft or a small portion of a weft as a tester piece prior to dyeing/toning the full set in order to ensure that you are satisfied with the results.

We do not recommend getting hair extensions colored a lighter shade, as it will require them to be bleached. Bleaching can alter the quality of your extensions and even damage it.

We do not recommend perming your Woven extensions. Perms can be harsh on the hair and could dry out or ruin your extensions. Our hair is 100% Remy human hair, but because the extensions are not getting the same nutrients as your natural hair, perming chemicals may not react well with the extensions.

There are many ways to increase the longevity of your hair extensions. If you have installed wefts, we recommend sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase; it will do wonders to protect your strands!

If you want additional protection at night, try gently twisting or braiding your hair and wearing a silk or satin scarf. We also suggest putting as little heat on the extensions as possible, just as you would do with your own hair.

Our extensions can absolutely be blow dried, straightened and curled, however, the less heat you expose them to, the longer they will last. Clip-in’s are an incredibly convenient hair style and proper care ensures their long lifespan. We recommend removing them before going to bed. It’s also important to comb each piece before every re-installation.

Virgin hair is human hair that has not been chemically processed in any way. This means that it is free from all dyes, perms, bleaches and harsh washes. Not all of our hair is virgin hair. Any hair that is not naturally brown, dark brown or black has been safely and gently lightened to maintain it’s quality and texture.

All of the hair that Woven sells is remy hair. This classification, as well as virgin grade, is perhaps the most important aspect of high quality hair. This means that the hair is gathered from the head of donors using a method designed to keep the hair cuticles flowing in the same direction, the way hair flows naturally. This process allows the hair to maintain its texture, body and shine for far longer than chemically treated hair.

When choosing a shade, it’s important to match the extensions to the middle to lower part of your hair as well as the ends, rather than the roots. This will help to get a more accurate match and achieve a more natural look.

If you are unsure on which color will match your hair, let us recommend one for you! You can email 3-4 photos of your hair to photos@wovenhair.com.

It’s best to have someone else take photos of you in natural sunlight. The natural light will be very helpful for us to determine your true hair color.

We will not be able to accurately determine the color from a photo taken in fluorescent light, low light or at night. For the most accurate results, one photo should be from behind, one for each side profile and one from the front. Please be sure to include the entire length of the hair in the photos so that we can be sure the hair will blend properly to the ends.

When you purchase Woven hair extensions, you are helping women in two different communities.

  1. You are contributing to the development of the communities in which the hair has been collected. The temples that collect the hair through tonsuring proceed to sell the hair in an auction process. A small portion of the proceeds from the auctions are used to pay for regular upkeep of the temple. The majority of the proceeds fund community programs that provide healthcare, education, and support for critical infrastructure projects. See more here.

Visiting the temples allowed us to experience first hand how the local communities were supported through the hair sales. Before we started Woven, we traveled to these communities to talk to the women who donated their hair, and in the process we created relationships with the temple staff and their distributors. We feel great about contributing to this part of the hair industry being completely certain that we are helping, not hurting. Your purchase also helps to support the the women who are employed at the facilities in which the hair is processed.

We have visited many different facilities, and were extremely selective when it comes to the companies we chose to partner with. In our vetting process the majority of the employees at our suppliers facilities are women. we learned that when the women employed at one of our partnered facilities, bank account with direct deposit which gives the women full control over their earnings, helps keep women financially independent.

2. Your purchase also helps to alleviate the burden of hair loss that often is associated with retaining a healthy and positive body image. A percentage of each individual sale will fund the production of personalized wigs for those suffering from hair loss. - Click here to find out more info about hair loss.

We source our hair exclusively from India. More specifically, the hair comes from several temples in the southern region of Tamil Nadu where hair tonsuring is done on a regular basis as religious practice.

Tonsuring is the practice of cutting or shaving some or all of the hair on the scalp, as a sign of religious devotion or humility. For more information on tonsuring within the Hindu religious tradition, click here.

A hair prosthesis (or cranial prosthesis) is a custom-made wig specifically designed for patients who have lost their hair as a result of medical conditions or treatments, such as alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis, Trichotillomania, Chemotherapy, or any other clinical disease or treatment resulting in hair loss. click here for more information about cranial prosthetics.

Absolutely! Woven is a for-profit, socially conscious company, so if you’d like to contribute to our cause, you won’t get that sweet, sweet tax deduction. But you will get an awesome gift from us, as well as a virtual high five and some good Karma. Click here to support.

Not yet. We are headquartered in Chicago, Il, and while we can physically reach those in our city and surrounding suburbs, we are working on expanding our reach across the U.S. in order to be able to better service all of our customers in need of cranial prosthetics.
